No Pressure Guide to Happiness

The path to greatness is a road we all must travel ourselves.

The demands we place on ourselves will determine our final outcome, our final result. Are you placing the right demands on yourself? or are you being to demanding?

There’s so much pressure this day in age. Not only does the pressure come from our peers but it comes from all of society, all of culture. It’s ironic how we have it better than any civilization has before us yet we struggle more-so than ever before.

The demands we place on ourselves are killing us rather than actually helping us grow.

What pressures are you putting on yourself?

Are you pressuring yourself so much that the stress and anxiety consumes you?

Don’t be so hard on yourself, we all struggle.

Do you live in a sea of hopelessness or is everyday something new? a new day to conquer? a new day to win? a new day to be all that you can be in all that is?

Now-a-days everyone struggles and it seems no one knows why.

The truth seems obvious yet we all live in our own world’s of ignorance. We deny the truth as a means to protect ourselves, ultimately hurting us and leading us towards our bitter end.

5 Major Influences on Well-Being

Influence #1 – Culture

We live in a party culture, negative influences are everywhere. From the moment we wake up to the moment we go to bed we are bombarded with endless messages.

What kind of art do you part-take in? What kind of movies? music? Why do you listen to this type of music? do you listen because you love the music itself or do you listen to gain popularity? to fit in? What kind of habits to you part-take in? do you abuse subtances? drugs? alcohol? food?

Do any of these things actually make me feel good about myself? Will any of these things make me feel better?

There’s good and bad in everything, choose to take pride in acknowledging the good in all things. Seek out good, find ways to make good known.

Do you believe in God? I do. I’m not saying its a pre-requisite to healing but it does help to alleviate depression and anxiety to know someone is looking out for you. It’s also relieving to think our souls are eternal.

See I think of the good as God. Seek out God.

When people channel good from themselves, through themselves unto others this is the act of God. The act of a higher power and the act of a deeper understanding.

Do you seek out Good/God in others?

Influence # 2 – Society

A big part of our conditioning as humans is due to our surrounding environment. What is your surrounding environment like? Are the people around you toxic substance abusers or are they free from attachment, warm and supportive?

There’s so much pressure in society now-a-days from media, advertisers and those around us that most people have formed unrealistic expectations in their daily lives. It’s an odd realization but its safe to say most people live in denial of the truth to some regard.

Do you live in denial of the truth? are you happy?

Do you have control of your health? your life?

Do you live in denial from the truth? Do you act like your addictive habits aren’t so harmful? Do you act like you can live forever? like you’re invincible? like you can eat anything you want and get away with it?

Hard work pays off, and that’s that. There’s nothing more to it. Your disciplines and self-control will determine your levels of happiness.

What controls your life? the external or the internal?

Denial is putting the blame on anything other than yourself. Sure we all come into this world with different troubles than one another but its our responsibility as individuals to vanquish our demons and whatever plagues us. As humans we all need to build courage and face our fears or we forever live a life of discontent and discomfort.

Don’t be afraid to ask for help if you need it, that’s where most people get lost. Reach out to someone close or find an institution near you that could possibly help you with some counseling. We all need therapy and it doesn’t hurt to start helping ourselves. If someone you know is experiencing these kind of problems let them know you have a waiting ear and a supportive frame of mind. If their problems exude anything beyond what you’re capable of discussing encourage them to reach out.

Influence # 3 – Psychology

So culture says “abuse this” while society says “be accomplished“, the psychological aspect becomes tormenting as we get stuck in-between.

Are your thoughts impulsive? bad? negative? do you feel toxic? This is more common than you’d think now-a-days.

Have you ever come across the law of attraction? the idea, you become what you think about most?

Making smart choices means being a smart thinker, being a smart thinker means monitoring your thoughts. Do you’re thoughts generate negativity? positivity?

We create the worlds we live in with our words. Believe it or not the thoughts you think today (if given enough substance) will become tomorrow’s beliefs. So what are you thinking today that’s creating tomorrow’s anxiety? creating tomorrow’s opportunities?

The truth is 9 of 10 things you worry about will never happen and the 10 things that did happen, 9 of them you didn’t worry about. Stop worrying. Stop draining yourself psychologically.

It’s okay to have bad thoughts, fact of the matter is we all have them. The important factor is not to act on them or let them consume you. Fight your way to establish good thoughts, good beliefs.

Consider this thought: “I believe in the good things coming” – A lyric by Nahko Bear’s Black as the Night

What a beautiful thought.

Whether we believe we can or we believe we can’t we are usually right. Find messages that lift you up, work towards your faith.

Influence # 4 – Habits

What a better way to build positive thoughts than actually acting on well-being.

CONSIDER THIS: Your levels of healthiness and wellbeing are determined by your ability to act in ways that are whole in terms of mental/emotional, physical and social health.

Are you healthy? do you have a healthy body? a healthy mind? Do you do the things you have to do? or do you escape and retreat as an act of denial from what is?

Don’t let stress consume you, accept the moment for what it is and work on being present with the moment.

Notice the cycle for change:

  • Pre-contemplation – being unaware.
  • Contemplation – planning for action.
  • Action – following the path set forth.
  • Maintenance – holding true.

Don’t get stuck overthinking you can’t always think your way out of a bad situation. Thinking is important when it comes to planning but without consistent action thinking is worthless. Work to get to point of maintaining your healthy habits, work one habit at a time until they become deeply engrained routines.

Influence # 5 – Biology

Okay so maybe we’ve come to terms with society and culture’s influence, maybe we’ve established good habits and have redirected our thinking patterns. Maybe something still feels off and we keep falling back into our destructive patterns?

Some of us are born with pre-dispositions which opens our body to be susceptible to illnesses. Unfortunately there’s no way around it. Some of us need medication in order to feel whole, don’t fight it if that’s you. Of course, always talk to a doctor before taking any prescription drugs.

How to start creating a healthy life.

  1. Start taking responsibility and control for your life.
  2. Start being grateful, be happy regardless of whatever circumstance.
  3. Love yourself unconditionally, we all make mistakes and at times look foolish.

There’s so much wisdom to gather and to share. Let your light live on in others. Work to reach new heights of being then spread the lessons you’ve learnt with those who value your word.

Start making healthy choices. Stop accumulating unnecessary risks whether financially, socially or in terms of your health. Start living to prevent risk, making wise choices.

A healthy body means a healthy mind and a healthy mind makes smart decisions.

Holistic Healing

In terms of holistic healing we can always be smarter with what we put in our bodies. Most people don’t focus on a well-balanced diet so they become weak. When we listen to our bodies and give them what they need we can destroy pathways to negativity. Building stronger connections with ourselves and mother earth based on what we put in our body is important to establish that mind-body connection.

Becoming Self-Aware

As individuals we must learn to give time to our concealed thoughts. Work to understand your feeling and emotions. We can’t always get our emotions completely on our side but with practice we can influence them in a way where they no longer carry so much weight into the situation.

The Health Triangle
Balancing Happiness and Creating Success

When it comes to being a whole happy person there are 3 aspects that determine our potential levels of success and well-being.

  • Physical Health
  • Social Health
  • Mental/Emotional Health

When all pillars are strong we are most likely to act fully and whole, becoming our best selves. When one pillar is missing or lacking, just as a tripod would, the balance shifts sometimes to the point where we tumble over destroying the other two pillars.

So how can we focus on improving these pillars?

Focus on the message being said, the tone in which you say it and how it’s interpreted by others. Work on making good connections with others. Work on being assertive and removing/distancing yourself from toxic influences.

Focus on building good character. Focus on things that create intrinsic value, things that benefit the greater good, work on your trustworthiness, your integrity, your word.

Be compassionate, warm, kind and supportive towards others. Not everyone wants to hear about how they can improve sometimes people just need to be heard.

Work on becoming the best listener you can be.

When it comes down to it the most important thing sometimes is having someone to turn to in times of distress.

Start now. Start taking charge of your health, your muscles your joints. Treat your body as a temple. Focus on nutrition and improving your physical health. Dedicate minimum 30 minutes a day to physical activity, you won’t regret it.

30 Minutes is enough to influence big change especially if you’re doing it consistently.

If you’re not the most physically inclined focus on little wins until you can accomplish greater feats; the goal being to always challenge yourself.

Are you taking time for “me” days? or do you spend every waking moment working, plugging away?

Stress management is something we all need to determine for ourselves, therapy can come in many forms. Sometimes we need to abide by one therapy to get to the next, each having their own lessons and way of profoundly creating transformational change.

So what do you find value in? how do you de-stress? re-charge your batteries?

You have greatness within you, the question I ask now: are you up to the challenge to unleash it?

Thank you to all my readers! I wish you all the best on your endeavors. Don’t give up on yourself. Always get back up no matter how many times you fall down. You may not know me personally but I can tell you that my life is a testimony that you can rise above the suffering. Don’t let your current situation define you, you are stronger than you’ll ever know.

Sparking Transformational Growth

Why do some people experience miracle after miracle while others seem to experience no luck at all? Do they have a rabbit foot in their back pocket?

Truth is a lot of us don’t approach change with the right mindset. We need to start taking action this very instance; before you know it the window of opportunity is lost and never to return.

Start taking action! Start now! Don’t let anything hold you back! Don’t choose laziness; the easy path only guarantees jealousy and resentment. Choose to take the higher road and to put forth a consistent effort. Change is inevitable; start directing your energy in a more constructive way, work on becoming your best self.

Don’t let neglect bury you in a deep grave you can’t get out of. Stress will kill you if you let it; let the stress be a driving force. Find your passion, build your momentum and harness your energy. Use adrenaline to tackle your biggest fears.

Find your courage, embrace fearlessness overcoming anything that burdens you.

Challenge yourself. Don’t let mistakes and downfalls determine the course of your life. Never back down, never give up. Even when you feel isolated, even when things seem impossible commit to your vision choose to live morally strong.

Seek to understand and to grow. Your emotions will get the best of you on occasion, you’re only human. It’s okay to have an emotional reaction just don’t let emotions affect your decision-making in the grand scheme of things.

Allow pain to propel you forward, allow it to become a mindful learning experience, channel your pain and find a way to express yourself. Find your flow and let go; stop criticizing yourself and just let be, see what’s possible. Find something you’re passionate about and work tirelessly till it’s completed.

Anytime you feel down on yourself take action in the creation process. Create for yourself, find your expressive piece & allow your soul to move you. Find a place free of distractions, quiet your mind and just be.

Don’t be sad, be grateful and appreciate this very moment the natural flow of the universe will provide. Just be you, be genuine, find your true vibration. Find your truth, your happiness, and your reason to be; rid yourself of the soul-sucking ego.

Live purposefully and within your means encourage others to do the same. Commit to action everyday and work on building self-esteem. One day your pain will subside make sure pride is there to take its place.

“One should… be able to see things as hopeless and yet be determined to make them otherwise” – F. Scott Fitzgerald

Suffering is a part of life, we all suffer in different ways but something beautiful comes with it; Only through pain can we come to understand true joy.

Finding Inner Peace

I’ve been reading Osho’s book “The Inner Journey” and I’m in love. It’s so well written and brings about such great peace.

life's journey

The main concept of “The Inner Journey” is the fact that over the course of generations we’ve chosen to neglect the soul. In the book they call it “the navel”, our life-energy.

When born our life-energy comes from our mother through our umbilical cord, after cut we experience our first instance of separation from our mother’s. This first instance of separation will notify whether the baby is healthy or ill. After cutting the cord a healthy baby should cry knowing their life-energy source has gone away. Their life-source up until yesterday is no longer. If a baby doesn’t cry after the cord being cut it is most likely the baby is sick or close to death.

Our greatest source of life-energy comes from our navel, our soul, a function of the body that has been neglected.

Over the course of centuries man has developed his functions subconsciously. We breathe without thinking, eat without thinking, sleep, everything needed to survive we do without thinking.

Sadly over the course of this time man has become corrupted due to the nature of evolution. Man has lost touch with being, lost touch with the navel center, rather we have focused all the attention on the brain.

Over the course of time we overdeveloped the brain and neglected to develop the navel. Eyes can’t hear just as ears can’t see, the brain and navel act the same way; the navel can’t function for the brain and the brain can’t function for the navel, they each have their own purpose. When we choose to neglect the needs of the navel we are putting pressure on the brain to comprehend and rationalize something it doesn’t fully understand.

Man’s brain is the most delicate thing in the world, it handles so much stress it’s a wonder how it doesn’t just break down and become mad. We hardly have any idea how delicate the nerves in the brain are, the nerves which carry the entire burden, the whole weight of life.

In order to access the life-energy of the navel center we must first relax our brain and whole body. The more relaxed the brain is the more sensitive it’ll become, you’ll start hearing and feeling every little thing from the heartbeat to the coming and going of your breath.

Being free of contemplation, free from thoughts is the basis of life. There is no significant process of life that’s related to thinking that’s why it’s so important to get into a deep sleep, so your processes can function without hindrance.

We need to free ourselves of anger; we need to learn to love. We cannot hate and love at the same time they can’t co-exist. Just as the heart cannot live and be at death, the heart cannot hate and love simultaneously.

Man’s mind is like a pendulum from one extreme to another, never staying in the middle.

We must learn to love. We must learn the spectrum of hate, we must understand the absence of hate isn’t love it’s just a lesser hate. We cannot love and hate at the same time; we either live through love or live through hate, one or the other.

Living through hate and anger, the heart center remains undeveloped and the impossible starts happening. What the navel and heart can’t complete the person will attempt to complete with his brain causing even more tension and stress.

Relationships from the brain center are based off intellect and only run so deep. Love is blind and arises from levels so deep it becomes difficult for us to understand the reasons for it. Love based off of intellect will never last; we cannot love through our brain only our heart.

Genuine, true friendship comes from the navel center. Love binds, friendship gives freedom. Friendship does not become someone’s master, it doesn’t imprison, it frees. One who is friend to all will reach the divine sooner or later because his relationships are happening with everyone’s center; soon he will become bound to the navel center of the universe.

The flow of breath changes moment to moment according to your state of mind. Either you change your mind and the breath changes or you change your breath and the mind changes. The deeper and slower you breathe the more your navel center will develop. As long as your breathing remains harmonious your thinking will become less.

Path of Least Resistance

hard road

It’s so easy to get inside your head and convince yourself not to do something. Its so easy to let fear control us. Its so easy to begin something and then to just put it down. It’s easy to give up when things get tough. But what’s easy isn’t always what’s right.

More often then not we opt to take the path of least resistance. Its just so much easier to be free of criticism or judgement from others. A lot of us battle ourselves everyday, the last thing we want to do is rub people the wrong way and create more conflict. As a means of avoiding conflict and failure its easier just to ignore the possibilities of what could be. It’s easier for us to hold onto our pent up emotions and accept what is rather than going against the current.

Conditioned by our thoughts of conformity we begin to believe the limitations of our parents, peers and authority. We begin to feel content with our environment and accept it as the true reality. We learn to live with our problems rather than to learning to adapt to inevitable changes.

Rather than enjoying the fruits of our labour we are frozen by action left to contemplate and rationalize every possible excuse as to why we failed. Remaining frozen in action living with sadness and anger we allow our failure to define us depleting us of all available resources. Living with this depletion of resources we remain in an unstable environment that lacks structure, support and personal growth.

Struggling to be happy we remain stagnate and actually begin show signs of physical and mental decline. We begin to lose our purpose and reshuffle our priorities. We begin to see life through a short lens living as if we were to die tomorrow.

Greed and immediate gratification become all so important. Being that we are unhappy and discontent with our environment we turn to selfish behaviour that promotes dopamine production. Ideally the thought is “I’d rather be happy” but this is such a short-sighted statement. In the long-run feeding our senses becomes toxic and poisonous to the individual. Immediate gratification becomes self-sabotage and this quickly becomes a deeply engrained pattern.

We begin to forget about our dreams and lose faith altogether. We lose purpose and our reasons for being. We begin thinking “is this really all that life is”. Unable to feel true happiness due to the fact the pleasure centers of the brain have been overloaded day in and day out we begin to feel hopeless and burnt out.

Life’s tough but it’s time to grab the bull by the horns. If you don’t begin to start taking action fear will guide you down a dark path. Don’t let fear back you into a corner you can’t get out of.

Take control of your life. Take control of your health. Take control of your finances. Your problems will begin a snowball effect if you choose to neglect them. Refuse to turn the other cheek, stay on top of monitoring your progress.

Stretch your comfort zones and get comfortable doing so. Remember, a house cat is not your spirit animal, your spirit animal is fierce, intimidating and never backs down.

The path of least resistance is an emotional unstable journey which guarantees jealousy and resentment. How far down does the rabbit hole go? I’m not going to participate to find out and you shouldn’t either. Escape the darkness, climb into the light.

Reinventing Yourself

No one said life was easy and it’s apparent its not. If there was one guide to living the best life then no other guide would ever need to be made. If there was a magic pill or some easy way I would have found it by now but trust me there isn’t.

We all search for answers to please us. We question ourselves, we question our purpose. Some of us over time lose ourselves and begin to question our values. Through this self examination we become fixated on things we cannot change rather than things we can. We begin paralyzing ourselves while reflecting on the past or living in hope of the future.

We become our own worst enemies battling with our minds for what we want.

Why do people experience crisis in their lives?

People experience crisis in their lives because they can’t accept the truth of reality. Reality is hard. Reality is tough. More often then not these people have been disillusioned for a greater portion of their lives and are in tough hole to get out of. Inevitably these people come to experience “reality checks” and realize that their life is nothing that they had planned.

Why Plan?

If you don’t give yourself direction the wind will decide for you. Happiness and success isn’t something you just stumble upon its something you strive towards. Living without a plan is like shooting at a dart board with a blindfold on. You may hit your mark but most likely you’re shooting blindly and odds are you’ll never come close to your target.

Guidelines to Managing Action

    • Set daily, monthly, annual and long-term goals.
    • Evaluate your current self. How do you currently spend your time? What could you be doing differently? Can resources be leveraged differently? More efficiently? What are your biggest distractions? Can you practice moderation?
    • Rely on lists. Forget about the traditional to-do lists, instead make day or time specific lists. Any task that is “iffy” in terms of being completed can be organized in a “Someday/Maybe” list.
    • Have a system for your lists. Have a filing system and specific categories. Some categories could possibly be a “projects” list, a “next actions” list and a “waiting for” list.
    • Evaluate based on a weekly review. Ensure your brain is clear and all loose strands of the past few days have been collected, processed, and organized.

Remember that your quality life will look different from my quality life. We are all unique and have different needs and wants from one another. Don’t steal someone else’s vision, create your own. Establish what’s important to you and what’s worth working towards.

Create a system to reach your desired goals. Be specific with the action steps you need to take to get there. Again, consider making lists to identify the new changes you’ll need to make.

Action Steps to Reinventing & Modifying Behaviour

    • Wake Up Early.
    • Make lists everyday.
    • Prioritize your tasks.
    • Complete your lists.
    • Do the hardest tasks first.
    • Tidy & remove all clutter.
    • Think rich. (upbeat, positive and focused)
    • Save 10-20% of your income.
    • Control your thoughts and emotions.
    • Schedule uninterrupted blocks of time.
    • Read & improve your knowledge.
    • Work in 20 minute spurts.
    • Spend less time sitting.

Reinventing yourself takes time don’t move away from the process. Start today not tomorrow. If you can’t take action at this very moment plan proactively. Learn to be reliable and to count on yourself. Get your energy levels up and be healthy. Unplug from all electronics and find quiet time to recharge. There’s no success without failure, take everything you’ve learnt and let it change you. Focus on changing your inner self and the outer world will follow.

Conscious Entertainment

Why do our homes seem like consciousness sinkholes? The moment we get home we plunge into our unconscious behaviour from the moment we get home to the moment we leave for work the next morning. Sitting has become a disease. It’s so easy to be pre-occupied nowadays, if we’re not lost into our phones most likely we are lost into TV shows, movies or music. We become so lost in our behaviour that the night passes with absolutely nothing getting accomplished.

It’s so easy to get mesmerized. Whether it be fantastic writing or eye-capturing graphics the fantasy is real. We’ve become so subdued by the reflection that we become lost and disassociated in our actual lives.

I’m not knocking TV shows, movies or music… I’d never do that, I’ve done my fair share of participating. What I’m trying to rationalize is conscious viewing.

Rather than binge watching shows/movies we should be more deliberate with our entertainment. Its fine to get lost into a show but at what cost?

Our sources of entertainment have become sinkholes for our behaviour. We should be more deliberate with how we spend our time. Watching TV is fine but watching TV for two/three hours every single night gets a bit costly. We begin to avoid the daily practices we should be participating in. Television breaks will, it depletes willpower.

It’s like sitting in a closed room with nothing but donuts in front of you. It’s only a matter of time before you break and have one. This is the same kind of influence television has on us. Although we may be able to avoid the television periodically, it’s only a matter of time before we plug ourselves back in.

Whatever happened to going outside or reading a book? It seems so unnatural this day in age. Considering most people experience anxiety or ADHD symptoms it makes what should be usual definitely unusual.

All of our unhealthy symptoms are a sign of neglect. Neglecting to be informed, neglecting nature, and neglecting to care for one’s self. We need to begin to challenge ourselves, we need to unplug from technology and begin to enjoy the outdoors. We need quiet and piece of mind.

Being constantly bombarded by messages and never slowing down can become a barrier to one’s personal reflection. We need a quiet pause to analyze and evaluate, to follow our trains of thought and to do our best thinking.

We need to work on building up our attention span. Begin to socialize more, listen when people speak. Read books and learn everything we possibly can. We need enjoy different events and participate in new and exciting activities. Schedule blocks to enjoy yourself. Whether it be watching TV, playing on the internet or going to events be deliberate with how you spend your time. Time spent only becomes wasted once we lose purpose for our actions. Remember that taking time to do the things should never be an issue, the issue is when you become fully consumed into whatever it is you’re doing and forget about our other concerns.

Remember, fantasy is cool but its not real life; live consciously and be mindful in whatever it is you’re doing.

The Concept of Healthy

In this fast-paced world eating healthy may be one of the hardest simple things to do. Coming from generations of ancestors who had to fend from their selves we are now a generation of fast food go-ers. It’s inevitable, we can’t avoid fast food this day in age. Whether it be a breakfast snack, a coffee, or a burger as consumers we just can’t stay away and the effects are life-threatening.

It’s ironic that we know we are destroying ourselves yet we continue to do so. For many years when television was first executed on a mass scale people were oblivious to advertisements. Coming from truly traditional homes where someone’s word was everything, these consumers never thought anything less than the truth from what advertisers messages were telling. Lies and falsehoods were common from advertisers. Advertisers commonly used doctors and scientists to gain credibility when expressing distorted facts, these facts quickly became what most regarded as truth.

What’s real started to become lost due to disillusion and distorted facts. Gradually these messages change our beliefs as to what’s considered appropriate according to a collective understanding.

Living according to universal truth or living according to what advertiser’s sell became the two major divisions in what’s considered real.

Those living in truth who seek facts and understanding before acting were continued to be shunned down despite factual evidence. Governments and monopolies continue to deploy strategies of false facts and false information making these people seem foolish despite possibly being correct.

False illusions and beliefs have been created everywhere due to false information.

Not everyone seeks to learn and understand what’s being put into their body although everyone should. We should be moving away from fast food and malnutrition and instead moving back to a more traditional approach; cooking at home.

Cooking at home is quickly becoming a lost art. Rather than filling our cravings with whole foods we would rather get a value burger for the sake of saving time.

Why are we in such a rush? If anything we have more time to live and enjoy ourselves than our ancestors did.

We need to stop being ignorant as to what we put into our bodies. Food should be viewed as fuel and constantly fuelling up on sugar and salty snacks really doesn’t help anyone.

Instead of sugary and salty we should be aiming towards proteins and leafy greens. We should prioritize our meats and vegetables. Fruits are great too and can be nutritious as a snack, but in terms of meals and replacing eating out think meats and veggies. If you don’t eat enough meats consider buying some protein powder as a replacement supplement – there’s also green powdered supplements to replace your leafy greens but these are more useful alongside your leafy greens rather than consuming the supplement alone. Nothing replaces whole foods not even supplements.

Supplements can be great to address the vitamins and nutrients we may be missing, but not entirely great to rely on as a daily source of nutrition. Supplements should be used wisely rather than being overused.

Really, eating at home shouldn’t be as difficult as it’s cracked up to be. Keep it simple until it becomes a consistent routine only then try to incorporate more complex recipes. First stage is being consistent. Plan favorable meals for coming days. Make sure you always have meat in the fridge and lettuce or spinach in the crisper.

Make eating out a last resort. The more you eat at home the more you’ll value home-cooked meals. You’ll feel better and be a lot happier! Your complexion and weight will thank you.
