Accomplishing Goals

What is it you want to accomplish? Maybe you want to start living a healthier life? Maybe you want to start saving money for the future? Start saving for a dream home? A future business?

focus

Whatever it is you want to accomplish there are fundamental steps to making these changes occur in our daily lives. The biggest factor without a doubt being focus. Without focus we wander lost and without purpose. With focus and concentration we can strive to live purposefully, taking actions to improve the overall quality of our lives bringing us close to the dream we’ve established for ourselves.

To reach your vision it must be deeply engrained, your actions must come from a place of passion. Your vision should be your first thought when you wake and your last thought before going to bed. Your vision should be something you cannot go without, something no one can convince you to shy away from.

8 Principles to Accomplishing Any Goal

Visualize
Visualize where it is you want to be, visualize the end result, and visualize the journey. Where is it you want to be at the end of your transformation? Is it realistic? Can you see yourself taking the steps to get there?

Create a vision & action steps
This is where imagination becomes so important, we need to see it before it ever actually comes into being. Note everything you may encounter, note every opportunity, every risk, create actions steps incase these scenarios ever come into play.

Commit to action
A goal is just an idea without effort and consistent action. Wake up everyday with the intention to knock something else off the list.

Keep the end in mind
We all begin from different starting points, for some success and happiness might be harder to attain than others. Keep the end in mind; don’t quit, you’ll get there in time.

Accept failure and uncertainty
The road of success is buried in misfortune, don’t let failure affect your emotions. You’re going to fail its inevitable, you’re only human… we all make mistakes. Learn from your mistakes and move past them, don’t linger.

Evaluate and re-evaluate
Evaluate yourself, what does your progression look like up until this point? What could be done differently? Are you really utilizing your resources most efficiently? Your time? Are you taking the proper actions? Do your action steps need to be revisited? Is something missing?

The biggest question we should ask ourselves is “knowing what I know now, am I taking the best possible direction to reach my outcome?”

Things change that includes our vision and priorities. The more we come to understand about life, human nature and wholeness the more we redirect our energy to gain purpose from our actions. The more we understand our feelings and emotions the more aware we become and the more willing we are to make the correct choices.

Revisit your vision
is it what you truly want? Are you truly willing to sacrifice everything necessary to accomplish this vision? Are you fooling yourself? Or do you truly believe?

Give your best effort and persevere
If you’re completely sold on your vision and completely willing to sacrifice whatever it is to get there then there’s no better time to start than right now. Effort is between you and you, don’t limit yourself; work for everything you deserve.

Stay poised, don’t get down on yourself if you’ve been at it for a long time. If your vision is really worth it you’ll stick with it. Failure and mistakes are just stepping stones, don’t let them define you. Remember, if it was easy everyone would do it. Not everybody can musker up the strength and courage but for those who can glory awaits.

Learning to Accept Today

Self control sucks, why is it we want the things we want so bad? Yet we get mad at ourselves the moment we have at it.

reflection

Some people go their whole lives caught up in addictive behaviour, their whole lives with intentions to quit but never really taking action.

Life and its moments will never be perfect we need to begin today. We need to see today in a new light, free of attachment and desire. Free of the thought “I need _____ to be happy” (fill the blank with whatever it is you abuse)

We all have certain behaviors we wish we could quit; to bad it’s not that easy.

Most of us are conditioned by our environments; it’s easier to accept what is rather than fighting against the current. Whether deliberate or not, subconsciously we adapt to our surroundings making them our reality.

Peer pressure is impossible to overcome if you constantly are bombarded by people you consider influencers. These influencers appear to have it all going for them on the surface yet on the other side of the coin they don’t realize the harm they’re inflicting on themselves in the long-term.

Everyone wants to be happy. You see it everywhere, advertising messages of happiness; it’s what’s being sold. Don’t let anyone sell you on the idea of happiness it’s nothing you can buy or consume.

Happiness comes from taking part in the journey of life, its heart-aches, its ups, downs and everything in between. It’s all a lesson.

The lesson is to become one with suffering and to accept your life as it is. We can’t change the past or future all we can do is act within the very moment we’re given.

Act in the moment, don’t grieve any longer. Don’t let self-sabotaging behaviour control the direction of your life. It’s never to late to start again. It’s never to late to reinvent yourself and change the course of your life.

Start today, start with the intentions to make today better than yesterday. Make everyday better than the last and complete everything you start. Don’t live with resentment of “I didn’t do this” or “I didn’t do that”.

Prioritize with the future in mind, start taking action against anything that’s eating you away. Start scheduling time to do the things that actually matter and following through with your word to do them.

Capitalize on your strengths and refuse to neglect your weaknesses, choose to participate in the journey of life. Choose to grow and develop yourself into something. Build the strongest version of yourself.

Find your grit; find your purpose for starting and don’t let anyone convince you it’s not worthy. Make a mission statement, write it down, and make sure you see it everyday. Use it to remind yourself in remembering the reason you put forth the effort you do. Let it be a symbol of your journey, a reflection of the transformations that are and will be.

Obtaining Fulfillment

fufillment

What is the difference of fulfillment and being satisfied/content? How does one obtain fulfillment? Why is fulfillment important? All reasonable questions that if one doesn’t understand the term fulfillment they would never know.

Do you live a fulfilling life? What is fulfillment? Fulfillment is gaining satisfaction from your actions. Why is this absurd? Because not everyone acts in a fulfilling way. Most of us are conditioned by our environment to accept what is our true reality. Without coming to terms or learning to grasp why we perform the action we incorporate the action into our daily living never resulting in any satisfaction. More often then not these tedious patterns deplete us mentally and physically.

Then why do we do it? Simply because we are unaware.

A lot of individuals are unaware of the truth of how happiness and success is obtained. Some individuals believe success is money, this just isn’t true. Success and happiness is something that’s fashioned through determination and hard work. Success and happiness isn’t gained from a place we arrive at but instead it’s something we pick up along the journey. It comes from embracing the highs and the lows but ultimately being able to control the weathered storm.

Lost in the illusion of what’s right and wrong people have come to the understanding within themselves that material possessions and money is what makes them happy. This corrupted view creates a lot of greed and animosity amongst society. Living with our envy and greed we are conditioned to one-up each other’s belongings. The newest this, the newest that with the end result depleted cash resources and little satisfaction gained. This is why we must come to understand fulfillment and what it means to be happy.

Are you enjoying life? Do take time of out of your day to have fun? Fun is crucial in regards to happiness. We must give ourselves the freedom to act without criticism from our thoughts. So often we are overanalyzing ourselves and being super critical. Stop and smell the roses. Don’t be afraid to take pause breaks. Take a moment to breathe in the beauty of life. Taking a pause break can be extremely beneficial and even heighten our alertness the moment we bring our energy back into our body.

Schedule time to do whatever activities you define as fun. Take all thinking away from the activity and just be. Find your childlike sense of wonder and explore. Consider making a list of all the potential activities you’d like to do someday. Use this as reference. Remember to have always have fun.

Remember to have fun in new and engaging ways. Engaging in the same activities we regard as fun quickly lose their spark of interest if we overdo it. Remember balance is key in all aspects of life. In regards to fun think of moments that would take your breath away whether it is different trips you would like to take, places you’d like to go, or things you’d like to do.

Don’t be afraid to start living the life you always wanted to live.

What is Happiness?

happiness

Everyone’s definition of happiness is different. The concept of happiness never changes but how we attain it does. Happiness is gained by simply valuing yourself and your role in society. Plain and simple.

Not everyone is born into great power. A lot of us are born below the poverty line and because of this we have barriers to our happiness. Happiness isn’t having money but money does allow happiness to flow. We can attain happiness through personal growth and what better propels personal growth than income. Having the income to buy the things you need to move forward is a huge relief. Constant burdens of debt and financial trouble easily put a strain on life making the future seem hopeless. For these reasons financial stability is extremely important when it comes to bettering yourself. Regardless if you love the job or not it’s important to have consistent income. Be gritty and don’t give up.

Bettering yourself comes hand in hand with valuing yourself. I’m sure you’ve heard it a million times “love yourself”. Seems easy yet it couldn’t be any more difficult. So often we forget how critical we are on ourselves and stand in the way of our own happiness. Remember this moment is all we have no need to reminisce about the past or worry about the future just live and let live. You are the sum of all your choices and moving forward with good intentions will help to balance a strong healthy well-being.

Another method that brings us to value ourselves is the service we render to others. We all need a purpose and a reason to get up each morning. Sometimes we lose our purpose and forget who we are when we live in isolation with our thoughts. We need to be free with the outside world. We need to find reasons to get outside, our reasons to be healthy and our reasons to live a truly great life. Having influences outside of ourselves helps this. We need a support system when times are tough, a mentor to teach us wisdom and a family to call home. Love is everything. Love, love, love don’t forget it.

Ultimately happiness comes from appreciating yourself. How you love yourself will influence how you treat everyone else. Remember to work on yourself be proud, be humble and always have the best intentions in mind. Live life to the fullest and don’t be afraid to get outside. Find your niche. Find a hobby and someone to share it with that’s where true happiness comes from.

Creating a Vision

vision

Without imagination we are unable to see into tomorrow, without imagination we must live with our pains and are forced to live the day-to-day reality hopelessly. With imagination we are able to establish a vision and more able to customize ourselves to acquire the tools needed to thrive in tomorrow’s world. With vision and imagination we are able to project the potential concerns and able to make the changes needed to succeed.

Imagination and a creative approach to problem solving is essential but without willpower nothing is possible.

Willpower is everything. Its the ability to do what needs to be done rather than doing what would be prefferred as more enjoyable. Life isn’t easy. One of my favorite sayings is from a Billy Ocean song “when the going gets tough the tough get going”. Willpower is the ability to perservere through hard times, through struggles and adversity; its the difference between someone reaching their potential or not.

Willpower is action and without action we are left in our minds to speculate. Refuse to speculate choose to participate instead.

Participate by creating a plan of action:

  1. Stop to consider where you want to see yourself within 1 year, 3 years and 5+ years.
Determine what you hope to have accomplished within these periods of time.
  2. Fill in the gaps
What are your strengths and weaknesses and where can you improve?
Determine which skills are necessary and which are irrelevant moving forward.
What will need to be learnt that could potentially increase earning potential?
  3. Be proactive
Consider all the threats and situations that may arise. Have strategies planned for dealing with these issues.
  4. Determine short, medium & long term goals. Be realistic and reasonable.
“God grant me the serenity to accept things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference” – Reinhold Niebuhr.
  5. Create milestones & rewards
Break down each goal step-by-step. Determine a proper course of action in order to have these goals accomplished within the given timeframe. Reward yourself in new and exciting ways when you finish on time.
  6. Revise, Re-evaluate and Reorganize.
Determine whether your plan of action was reliable and efficient.
What worked? What didn’t work? What could have been done better?

Your plan of action is a rule of measurement which we can more precisely evaluate or progression towards our goals. Be realistic with your plan. If you refuse to follow your plan of action don’t expect to reach your goals, its your choice.

Your plan of action should inspire the next step towards your vision. Actions should never wander aimlessly because the next step is clear and specific.

“Where there is no vision there is no hope” – George Washington Carver

Decide on a vision and do everything within your power to get there. Be resourceful overcome and persevere. All you have is this moment. Your future is created by what you do now not tomorrow. Don’t sell yourself short of what you’re worth. Love yourself, take action and begin now.

The Effects of Therapy Dogs

therapy dogs

“You can tell a lot about a man by the way he treats his dog” – Peary Perry

How is this theory true? Can you really see into a person’s character by the way he treats animals?

The truth is yes we can. Our kindness to animals has a big influence on how we treat other humans. Caring for animals such as dogs or cats helps us to think outwards. Domesticated pets offer companionship and qualities that are essential to a child’s development.

Pets offer a sense of purpose and fulfillment; they make good friends and good medicine. Obedient pets can become therapy animals improving coping skills in relieving stress. Offering a variety of mental health, emotional and physical benefits, domesticated pets can add a strong structure to an unstable home.

Pets relieve our feelings of loneliness and isolation. Like I mentioned, therapy pets; obedient animals can serve as an anchor keeping people grounded and happy. It is not uncommon for dogs to be incorporated into a therapy plan. The elderly, families affected by military deployment, even the disabled or ill strongly recognize the benefits pets can have.

No longer do we live in a day where we only use dogs to hunt or cats to fend off rodents. Instead nowadays pets are purchased more for their intangible benefits more than anything.

“A dog’s love is only second to that of a mother’s” – Radhika Mundra

Animal ownership is linked to a variety of positive outcomes. A dog’s companionship and unconditional love is something we can learn from. They love us plain and simple. As humans our lesson should be unconditional positive regard, acceptance and support regardless of what a person says or does.

We’ve all come into this world with lessons to learn. Remember our life situations get difficult and not to judge others but rather offer a helping hand if possible. We all shine in our own ways. Contribute to the community, volunteer and serve others as your therapy animal would serve you. We are not all lucky enough to rise above our circumstances but with persistent effort we can always create a better alternative. Remember when times are tough to be considerate and supportive. Don’t complain when asked for help rather jump at every opportunity to help fellow man.

“Clear eyes, full hearts can’t lose” – Friday Night Lights

Success is a journey not a destination. Remember to be open-minded and not judge a book by its cover. Live life with love in your heart and don’t forget UPR (unconditional positive regard).

Managing Stress & Living in the Present

How we manage stress will have the biggest impact on our quality of life.

Do you constantly dwell on the past?

Are you always rationalizing outcomes for the future?

Do you feel stuck? Do you feel lost?

Do you feel like you have no control over your current circumstances?

being present

The truth is most people feel this way. We must learn how to cope with stress or it can quickly take over your life.

The first step in managing stress levels is choosing how we to react to difficult circumstances. Choose not to complain and instead grab the bull by the horns.  Focus on the now. Forget the past, the future, stop overthinking and start taking action.

Second step, be deliberate with the company you keep. Not everyone knows how to manage stress and those who refuse grow will never learn. Avoid toxic relationships, avoid people who just want to use you, avoid building relationships with people who are self-destructive.

Make old friends acquintances if they no longer support your new way of living. Lead by example and if they are meant to follow along for the journey they will. Dont wait up.

You are responsible for your own personal development and noone else. Our parents did their jobs to raise us as children now its our turn to grow as young adults.

“Stress is caused from being here but wanting to be there” – Eckhart Tolle

Start living in the now. Take small steps towards a greater future. Face your fears and don’t get down on yourself. Do you, people appreciate novelty and cherish anyone who’s not afraid to be themselves. Stop being afraid of being different we’re all unique and thats what makes us who we are. Differences should be celebrated.

Stop stressing about life and start having fun and enjoying it.

“Wherever you are be all there.” – Jim Elliot
